Aleta’s top five tips for improving your dance:
- LISTEN to as wide a range of music as possible. Clap the rhythm and tap to the beat. Pick out the different instruments. Be inspired!
- S-T-R-E-T-C-H! Touch your toes while watching TV. Open your legs into a wide second position (like a V shape) and reach alternately right to left, holding for 40 seconds. Do it every day!
- MUSCLE and core (stomach area) strength are key for positions and posture. Stomach crunches and push-ups will help – set a target and gradually increase your goal.
- PRACTICE makes perfect. Break down routines and go through the moves and timing slowly. Gradually get faster and bring in the music.
- STAMINA – your ability to keep going – is a must for rehearsals and performance. Run up and down stairs, go jogging with your mates or run on the school treadmill. Do other sports...or just keep dancing!
