The man behind the movie camera
Tuesday 26 July 2011
Students from Lilian Baylis Technology School and the school’s Dance Programme worked with students from Charles Edward Brooke School on a week long project organized by the British Film Industry (BFI).
The inspiration for the project was a black and white Russian film created in 1929 with the aim of creating a promenade performance at the BFI.
During the week, 150 young people were split into groups and given the opportunity to work with artists from a variety of disciplines including dance (djs), music, art, photography and film. They worked very hard with the artists during the creative process and produced some excellent work. As a result, the promenade performance was a great success!
The project provided those that took part with an insight into what’s required to put on a performance of that scale in a short space of time. They now understand the importance of commitment, team work and good communication and social skills. Many have expressed a new enthusiasm and interest for dance and will be taking part in our summer programme; Night at the Movies!
