Greenhouse Volleyball player Jordan has been selected by Lloyds TSB as a 2011 Local Hero for the second year running.

In 2008, London 2012 partnered with Lloyds TSB to launch a ‘Local Heroes’ programme. Every year the bank helps to raise young athletes’ profiles in their local communities and across the country as well as providing them with funding as they embark on their journey to London 2012.
Jordan, 18, was put forward for a sports award by the England Cadets in late 2009. He was then nominated for the Local Heroes Award by sporting body Volleyball England who coordinate teams across the nation. In early 2010 Jordan received the letter from Lloyds TSB saying that he had been chosen to become a Local Hero.

Throughout the year the Heroes attend corporate events and establishments within the community including primary schools to talk about sports- what it has done for them- and how others might get involved. “The programme has taught me valuable skills including how to deal with the media and juggling school and sports” said Jordan.
Jordan,18, has been with Greenhouse for nearly four years and strongly believes that his coach has contributed to his success. He said: “I have a coach who connects well with his players. He has taught me skills that I can carry throughout life. I believe that Darius is making one of the biggest impacts in junior volleyball out of the many coaches I have seen in this country.”

Practicing around the clock with great aspirations to go pro in 4/5 years, the young volleyball star would like to see volleyball progress in the UK where there could be a chance volleyball could make it to the Olympics.
Darius Setsoafia, Greenhouse Volleyball coach has been a part of Jordan’s path since the beginning.- “Darius said: “ Unlocking his potential and seeing Jordan grow from age 14 and now four years later to be a Local Hero has been something special. I feel like I have helped him to the best of my ability, in his skills and presentation and I believe he has a great future ahead of him in whatever path he chooses.”
